It’s quiz time! Get your buzzers ready and let the tedium take you down an inescapable river!

This week we’ve got antiheroes – my favourite archetype, of course. Where would we be without antiheroes? Still stuck with the typical, boring good guy? That would be sad. But luckily, cynical, immoral, sociopathic and cold hearted cowards have blessed our earth, so I wanted to honour them. As usual, it’s simple: all you have to do is name the character featuring in the photo. Good luck!

But before we begin, here are the answers from last week, all about (disgusting) baths

  1. The Godfather: Part II

Ooh, some bad people there. Some, less so, but let’s not take that away from them. Remember, I want the name of the antihero for each picture. Most of them are films, but there are a one or two TV characters in there too. Comment moderation is ON, as per usual. Fraggle won last round, impressively so, and quite frankly, I think she’s been coming near the top far too often recently. Time for someone to knock her off the pedestal, people! Perhaps this could be the one… Enjoy!

    1. Not bad at all Brian – I’m happy to give you ten out of thirteen. The wrong answers? 7 and 12, probably a bit surprisingly. The third is 20, where you only gave the actors name. It was the correct though! Thanks for playing, Brian!

Ok, how can you call the dude from Wreckit Ralph an antihero?
And Kylo Ren? He’s just a plain vanilla villain.
Darkman is the quintessential anti-hero though. My parents started to let us watch it when it came on tv and then promptly turned it off when they started cutting off fingers with the cigar cutter thingy.
What is your definition of “anti-hero”?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. 3 out of 3, but I’m considering taking away two of your points for all this aggro you’re giving me. Of course Ralph is an antihero! He’s the bad guy in the video game! You have more of an argument with Kylo Ren, but I would still disagree – he’s the bad guy, but we discover there’s some good deep down in him as the film goes on, and he’s just been damaged by a turbulent past. An antihero – a hero who lacks typically heroic attributes. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

Ok, that was weird. I was notified of your “like” but not your comment. Good thing I came over!

        Liked by 1 person

        1. It was weird. When I tried to reply on my computer, it kept on saying I couldn’t like or comment on anything. When I tried again, it said I had already posted that comment. Then suddenly it said “Sever Maintenance” when I tried to click off. So I left it a while to reply now. WP went to its full buggy extremes there.

If I could find a good alternate to wp, I’d switch in a heartbeat…

    1 – Quint
    2 -Johnny Rambo
3 – Harry something or other, aka the Sundance Kid which I always thought was a really weird name for an outlaw, seems like it should be the name of a teenage sidekick to the Mighty Sun Man
4 – No clue, looks like one of the Nazis from raiders of the lost ark (but isn’t I know)
5 – That’s the dude from I Love You Phillip Morris but I don’t remember his name, I grant myself half credit
6 – Rooster Cogburn, I loved the remake of True Grit, I tried to watch the original once and it was lame
7 – Is that the titular Jason Bourne? I never saw any of those movies
    8 – Wreck-It Ralph
9 – Leon, I always forget the girl in that movie was Natalie Sportsman (that’s a better name)
10 – I assume that’s from uncut gems but I never saw it but I don’t know the character name, I heard it was pretty good
11 – Hannibal Lector from a terrible movie
12 – Kyle O’Ren, I would quibble with deeming him an antihero were I type to quibble, but I am not
13 – McNulty from the Wire, is he an anti-hero? I’ll have to think on that. I always thought of him more as a screw-up.
14 – I don’t remember the name of the character from King of Comedy, which is sad because when Joker came out everyone was talking about it all the time, stupid brain
    15 – Don’t know, looks like Maggie Gyllenhall’s brother
    16 – Don’t know
    17 – Don’t know
18 – Darkman from Darkman. This movie has a very strange place in my life. I was not a popular kid (spoiler) but for some reason I got invited to a boy-girl party and we watched this movie. For half a second people liked me but I didn’t know how to follow up and keep it going. Also I was really disturbed by the initial scene were Darkman gets wailed on.
19 – Vega brother #1, speaking of movies that freaked me out as a kid dot dot dot
20 – I don’t remember the protagonist of Gangs of New York, but this reminds me I need to work on my script about Gallus Mag, Sadie the Goat, and Hellcat Kate
21 – No clue, I feel like the kid from 3rd Rock was an anti-hero in 50 movies ten years ago
22 – Old man Deckard from Blade Runner 2 the Electric Boogaloo, my friends were all so obsessed with Blade Runner as kids that it made me hate it – it wasn’t that awesome guys
23 – I just watched the Champion during the lockdown, but I don’t remember the character’s name, I’m learning that I’m bad at names – a rose by any other right?
24 – Seems familiar but nope
    25 – Nope

    1. Ah, this is why I enjoy these quizzes – not only because they’re fun to put together, but there’s also some really entertaining answers. Right, here we go…

1, 2 and 3 all correct. Someone needs to create the Mighty Sun Man – I’ll leave that up to you. Ha, no, four isn’t that, but that reminds me that I need to rewatch that film. A classic. Hey, you got the film for five! That’s impressive enough – I’m granting you a point. Six is correct, seven is wrong! Seemed like it catched a lot of people out there. A tough one for sure. Of course that’s Wreck-It Ralph, and who could forget Leon? It is Uncut Gems, and a great film if you want to search it out. Sandler’s great. Yep, 11 is Lector. Glad you’re not the type to quibble, so I’ll give you the point. Yet you quibble on the next guess! Sigh. McNulty is a point. Love the King Of Comedy – shame you couldn’t get it. It is indeed Maggie’s brother, in a film that I really should watch… 16 and 17 are hard. Not a popular kid! I’m shocked! But it should perk you up that it’s of course correct. Not a Vega brother, surprisingly… Send me that script after you finish. Please. It is indeed the kid from 3rd Rock, but it ain’t right. Ah, no wonder you weren’t popular. Blade Runner is a great film. You get a point! And no points for the final three. So, by my count, that’s…12 points! Hey, not too shabby. I enjoyed that!

  4. 1) Quint, the wonderful Robert Shaw in Jaws.
    2) The taciturn John Rambo, Sly Stallone in Rambo 1st blood, (the best one)
3)Harry Alonzo Longabaugh otherwise known as The Sundance Kid, the gorgeous Robert Redford and his equally gorgeous partner Paul Newman as Butch Cassidy. I cried at the end of that one.
    4) Tom Powers never liked James Cagney but Mum did- The Public Enemy
    5 dunno
    6) Marshall Rooster, John Wayne Gritty and True.
    7) Should know this one but don’t.
    8) Pfft! 🙄
    9) Leon, great movie Jean Reno superb in the title role.
    10) Adam Sandler I think playing some jerk, I don’t like him one bit so never seen any of his movies.
    11) Hannibal Lectar in Hannibal Rising, played by Gaspard Ulliel (had to look up the name sorry). A movie that didn’t need making. It was pants.
    12) Even I know that’s Annakin Skywalker who became Darth Vader, Adam Driver taking over from The Green Cross Code Man.
    13/14/15 not a scooby.
    16) Be still my beating heart. Paul Newman (swoonable in the extreme) as Hud Bannon.
17)Daniel Plainview by Daniel Day Lewis, another of the truly greats, There Will Be Blood.
    18) That looks creepy horror so I don’t think I’ll have seen it.
    19) Not sure but am thinking Sean Archer from Face Off with Travolta and Cage.
    20) Amsterdam Vallon tae be sure, Leo de Caprio in Gangs of New York
    21) no idea
    22) Ah Rick Deckard the second time around for an even craggier Harrison Ford, Blade Runner 2
    23) My Mum loved this guy, I am Spartacus! Not, tis is Kirk playing Michael ‘The Midge’ Kelly in Champion. Douglas was a boxer before he became a movie star so very authentic.
    24) Loved Gary Oldman in this, and Lena Olin is gorgeous. Jack “Hell is when you should have walked away, but you didn’t” Grimaldi, Romeo is Bleeding.
    25) Alan Delon was such a beautiful man to look at, starring with his Missis, in Le Samourai as Jeff Costello. No samurai’s in itt at all, very disappointing.
    c’est tout!

    1. Ah Fraggle, another very entertaining guess. Let’s get down into the thick of it…

One is correct. So is two. How the hell did you remember his real name? Impressive stuff. Well done for four and six. What do you mean ‘Pfft!’? That’s a great film! 9 correct. Adam Sandler is surprisingly brilliant in this one, I highly recommend. Yep, it eleven is both pants and correct (apart from the unforgivable speaking of Lector). Hahahaha! 12 is wrong! Not so cocky next time, eh? Oh come on Fraggle – 14! 14! 16 and 17 are right. 19’s a good guess, but wrong, unfortunately. 20 right, 21 hard, 22 also correct. Well done for 23 and 24! That’s good. And, of course, who other than Costello himself? So, you’re final score? 14, I believe! I don’t think it’s enough to put you in the lead…!

Well, it seemed like you enjoyed the eye candy mostly here. Not my intention, but the customer is always right! Cheers Fraggle!
